Construction on Delta’s brand new terminal at New York LaGuardia began earlier this month in earnest. The $4 billion terminal, which will feature 37 gates, increased concession space, and a Delta Sky Club, is set to open in 2021.

LaGuardia Airport, which was famously called “third-world” by Joe Biden, is in the midst of an aggressive redevelopment campaign after years of languishing in decay. The master plan for the new LaGuardia Airport is a single unified terminal that replaces the current mishmash of four terminals. Delta’s terminal comprises one-half of the $8 billion LaGuardia master terminal.

New York LaGuardia has seen explosive passenger growth in recent years exacerbating the airport’s myriad of issues. In 2016, LaGuardia served 29.7 million passengers, up 14% year-over-year. Delta currently holds a 37% market share at the airport.
